Kandi Pampers the Ladies with Bedroom Kandi

There is nothing more special than women coming together for a great cause. Themselves.

Kandi Burrus of Real Housewives of Atlanta launched her intimate luxury line Bedroom Kandi and hosted the gala at Shout in Atlanta. Women stood in line and once entered, they thoroughly enjoyed being pampered and celebrated by men obviously carved from the decadent of chocolates.

"There are more ways than one to pamper ourselves!" says Kandi.

Q&A: THE GLAM DEREK J

Derek J is a man about town—hobnobbing with Housewives, judging Hair Battle Spectacular and, of course, tending to his devoted clientele’s tresses. The Ohio native’s career skyrocketed after moving to hair-centric Atlanta where he mastered his craft—unveiling skillful styles including short, custom weaves. From freelance styling to discovering a love for the hair competition world, he’s done it all…and perched upon fabulous heels!
The high-heeled hair master garnered lots of attention in Good Hair, soon followed by an impossible-to-miss appearance on The Real Housewives of Atlanta that eventually led to regular appearances on the hit Bravo reality show. “I’m used to the drama,” he readily admits. “It’s real, not scripted. They bicker and fuss.” Now, his loyal following, from celebs like NICOLE ARI PARKER, TERRI J. VAUGHN, singer TEEDRA MOSES, working moms to reality stars and real girls—clamor for his custom styles and the creative vibe at The J Spot Salon, his coif headquarters in Buckhead. “My girls don’t act like celebrities,” says the ‘free-flowing’ mane-tainance man. “They come in the shop, get their hair done, mix and mingle. They don’t need a private room.” We caught up with Derek J between clients awed by his scissor skills and his stiletto sashay. -CRYSTAL FENTON
On working with Teedra Moses: "Atlanta's a tough market, celebrity-wise. She performs here in Miami, so she called me."The Deets: "We usually do something very simple. Think: nice, chic bun or side swept bangs."Mandatory Credit: Johnny Louis/WENN.com
On working with Terri J. Vaughn: "She's fun and one of my favorites-great and easy to work with."The Deets: "Before, she wouldn't have tried anything with short hair. Now, shes here almost every week. The key to the short weave's success really depends on the cut, color and the styling technique," reports the pro. "This way, we can create a different look without sacrificing length."
On working with Nicole Are Parker: "Nicole is fabulous, I love, love, love her-she is a doll."The Deets: "Sometimes when we work together, I let her be in control," jokes the stylist. "I've taken her from a long weave to a bob to a spiky pixie."

LATASHA INTERVIEWS TIONNA SMALLS, GLORIA GOVAN, WYNTER GORDON & MORE FOR SACHIKA S/S12 FOR STYLE 360

SACHIKA S/S12 Collection for Style 360 from Dope Files on Vimeo.

This season, To-Tam and To-Nya took inspiration from the sea to create their current S/S12 collection for fashion week. It’s entitled, “Mermaid Paradise: Dance with The Ocean”, and the designers imagine what life would be if the queen of the ocean were to emerge onto land and exist on the Island of SACHIKA. See the collection filled with fiery coral, tangerine, and cool hues of ocean turquoise and seeweed green on gowns with mermaid tails and tailored pants.

Not only does Dope Files cover the runway and backstage havoc, but Latasha hits the red carpet! See her interview with Angelina from MTVs Jersey Shore (what has she been up to?), Tracy DiMarco of Jerseylicious (with new boyfriend!), Charisse Mills, Tionna Smalls, Gloria & Laura Govan of Basketball Wives (they tell us about the drama), and singer Wynter Gordon!
