Derek J has been seen on countless television shows like, the Real Housewives of Atlanta and Hair Battle Spectacular. He is an amazing stylist and his craft is celebrated by all the women who have been able to sit in his chair.
On my recent visit to Atlanta, I had Derek J apply and style my extensions while he gave me tips on how to care for and treat my extensions.
Derek's Tips:
1. Treat your extensions like you would your own hair, being rough, using too much heat will take away from the longevity and health of your extensions.
2. Tie it up at night, this will prevent 'roughing up' and will also allow your hair to remain silky and shiny.
3. Don't use too much product on the hair- if any at all, products weigh down extensions and cause them to look greasy and fine.
4. Always always keep your extensions clean, dirty extensions not only can make your skin break out but it also makes your hair lifeless and dull.
5. If you are going to wear your extensions for more than two months or if you plan to reapply them, ensure that you trim the ends so that they stay fresh, and especially on Virgin hair-trimming reduces split ends.
These were some pretty basic tips, but vital nonetheless, the simpler things are the more we forget them! Take care of your hair and keep on turning heads!
